STUDENT SafeTeam

"It feels like there is a big gap between adults and adolescents. For me, SafeTeam bridges that gap. I get to interact with teachers, to plan our activites. Working to create a safer school bonds us together."-

A. Stevenson, Student
,Booker T. Washington H.S.

The student SafeTeam is made up of a diverse group of students who work together to promote school safety through outreach, education, and peer mediation. Students identify the emotional needs and problems of peers and communicate to the coordinator.

Committee on Student Safety

"SafeTeam teaches me to inquire more deeply into the lives of my students, and to find out what is going on with them. It reminds me that they're not just brains, they're hearts and guts too."-

J. Waldron, Teacher
Booker T. Washington H.S.

The Committee on Student Safety is composed of school counselors, faculty members, and other interested staff volunteers. The Committee discusses potentially negative situations, such as substance abuse, self-destructive acts, academic problems, and abuse and violence before deciding on an intervention plan.
